Female Reproductive Organs

Except during pregnancy, a normal uterus is about the size of your fist and looks like a pear. The ovarian tubes run along the top outer part. An ovary is attached to each ovarian tube. The ovaries are the size of a pair of almonds and produce eggs and hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. The uterus opens into the cervix, called the cervix. This leads to the vagina. The uterus is made up of three layers.

– Serous layer; It is the outermost membrane layer and together with the connective tissue, it allows the uterus to attach to the lower abdomen.

– Muscle layer; This middle layer contains thick muscles.

– Endometrium; This layer, which forms the inner layer of the uterus, contains structures and glands that respond to chemical stimuli. Another name is mucosa.

The uterus has a rich blood supply. It is fed by a vein coming directly from the main artery. In front of the uterus is the bladder. Behind it is the last part of the large intestine. The urinary ducts that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder pass behind the uterus and enter the bladder.
