Skin Care during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a period in which both structural and functional changes occur in all organs of the woman. These major changes and hormonal fluctuations cause radical changes in the skin. We have to take precautions from the very beginning of pregnancy and in a highly disciplined and regular manner in order to preserve our physical beauty during pregnancy and not to carry these negative changes throughout our entire life after pregnancy.
Abdominal stretch marks are scars that resemble purple-red colored cracks as a result of the stretching-rupture and repair processes that occur in collagen and elastic fibers that provide flexibility as a result of excessive weight gain, pre-pregnancy collagen quality and genetic factors, especially the effect of hormones during pregnancy. Regular care with special skin care products, prevention of excessive weight gain and sun exposure are the most important recommendations from the diagnosis of pregnancy.
With the onset of pregnancy, the increase in the volume of the milk glands as a result of hormonal changes first causes tension in the breasts and then, after the lactation period, loss of elasticity and loosening. Special muscle exercises and massages using products that maintain flexibility and support with underwear are among the measures to be taken.
Both hormonal changes and the pressure of the growing baby in the abdominal cavity and the inhibition of circulation in the blood and lymph vessels in the legs cause varicose veins, edema and skin tension and protection. Preventing the use of tight pants-socks during pregnancy, avoiding excessive heat applications, cold water massages, keeping the feet higher than the head level and resting on the left side are the leading measures. After the end of pregnancy, regular physical exercises and the use of a suitable skin-firming product are recommended to prevent the skin’s tendency towards loosening and sagging.
